Video Interview: What to Do About Achilles Pain with Guy Delia, PT, DPT, COMT
/I sat down with one of my favorite physical therapists and movement gurus Guy Delia, PT, DPT, COMT of Renew Physical Therapy to do a deep dive into causes, cures and prevention of common Achilles tendon injuries.
Dr. Guy was pivotal in helping me recover when my Achilles started barking after years of aggressive endurance running with the wrong shoes (tip--get fitted for the right shoes!). It was my first personal experience with a tendon issue and was a fascinating learning opportunity for me in terms of treatment (spoiler alert--some injuries need rest, while some need to be pushed/stressed to stimulate recovery).
In this 15-minute video Dr. Guy explains the difference between Achilles tendonitis and tendinopathy, common causes of it, what to do if you suspect you’re at risk of injury, typical treatment protocols, how to think about these kinds of injuries and some helpful and easy warmups and strength drills you can do to help prevent foot injury.
