How to Start a Gratitude Practice to Improve Wellness

I shared in my latest newsletter the idea of picking just one thing to make things better. My one thing these days is to better connect with gratitude. The proven physical and mental benefits of a gratitude practice are undeniable. Gratitude can improve many aspects of your wellness including reduced pain, better physical performance, improved sleep and even better relationships.

I know I have a lot to be grateful for but with all the noise in my head I don’t always FEEL it. I’ve written a daily gratitude list and sent it to a friend in recovery for years. I wrote in a Google doc. That used to work for me. But now that I’m a virtual trainer I spent lots of extra time on the computer and somewhere along the way I began to resent the list. It felt like admin work.

So last month I changed things up and got a special notebook and embossed 24 on it to remind me to live one day at a time. It’s really helped. The act of writing it on a piece of paper versus typing on a laptop has helped. If you have never tried gratitude journaling or want to do yours differently give it a try! Let me know if you need suggestions. And feel free to comment with something you are grateful for today!
