Massage & Bodywork
Regular therapeutic massage plays a vital role in my clients' physical and mental health and is a pillar in a strong fitness foundation along with exercise and nutrition. I am a graduate of the San Francisco School of Massage & Bodywork where I completed a 600-hour certification program and successfully passed the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx). I am in the application process with the California Massage Therapy Council (CMTC) to become a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT). I also completed an internship with SF Custom Chiropractic under the direction of Dr. Adam Jacobs.
Rather than focusing on individual body parts or providing a generic "routine", I take an integrated approach to bodywork that is 100% customized to the client's needs. I help clients improve pain, mobility and performance by incorporating a variety of techniques and modalities including myofascial release, deep tissue, trigger point and sports massage. Each session begins and ends with a thoughtful assessment and check in to ensure effectiveness, comfort and improvement. I cull from my years of experience as a successful personal trainer to provide my massage clients guidance and recommendations for stretches, mobility work and strengthening exercises to perform between massage sessions.
How to Schedule
I practice on Tuesdays and Saturdays in a professional, private massage studio located in the Flood Building at 870 Market Street #455. If you would like to schedule bodywork or to discuss your needs please email me at JJ@JJ-Fit.com.
What My Massage Clients Say
As part of my study I worked for several months at Massage Lab, the San Francisco School of Massage & Bodywork's fully supervised student clinic. Here are just some of the kudos I received from Massage Lab clients.
"With his long fluid strokes and hands of masterful precision, even the most stubborn of tight muscles yield to this master of massage. JJ is a gem of a therapist who will have your body feeling better than ever for days and weeks to come."
"A++. The words 'perfect massage' come to mind."
"JJ is amazing. It's not a standard or rote massage that feels pre-rehearsed or what everyone gets. He is exploring and addressing the issues at each part of the body. It feels highly bespoke and customized to my specific issues and body."
"JJ was amazing. This session was the best I've had in my entire life. Very, very impressed and pleased."
"Top percentile massage. JJ did great work on my upper back as well as my hips and glutes. It's clear that JJ enjoys his work as a healer and that really enhances the experience. JJ has a healing and attuned energy in addition to having technical skill. He's got it all!"
"I really enjoyed JJ's flow. It's hard to describe, but it felt like warm water was flowing over me at times. JJ was very clear and courteous which made me feel comfortable and confident."
"Great pressure, very deep without being painful. I could feel my muscles releasing. The pace was perfect, not too fast and not too slow. I was able to reach a deep state of relaxation."
"Since I had a pulled muscle JJ was very mindful of my injury and worked around it. The pulling and stretching method everywhere else was really helpful and loosened things up. I also appreciated the explanation and approach of what JJ planed to do. It was just what I needed today!"
"JJ was great again! Quality of touch was consistent and pace was excellent. Thanks for working my back and shoulders so well. Top notch! JJ is definitely skilled at his practice. "
"Excellent pressure and touch the whole time. The deep tissue was great and felt really good on my muscles. JJ was very professional and communicated with me just enough. Great massage. See you again soon."
Is Massage Right for You?
Check out this excellent piece about the benefits of massage from the Mayo Clinic. And ask yourself...
- Do you sit at a desk?
- Do you lift weights?
- Do you jog, run or hike?
- Do you cycle?
- Do you experience stress, anxiety or insomnia?
- Could you benefit from improved mobility?
- Do you experience muscle or joint pain?
If you have medical conditions, mental health issues or any doubts or concerns regarding massage always discuss with a medical professional before getting bodywork done. Massage therapists can be highly skilled and specialized professionals but are not medical doctors and shouldn't be treated as such. A good massage therapist may ask you to provide clearance from your doctor before working on you if you have notable health issues or concerns.
